Our Premises History
1902 -At the turn of the century, the Federal Hall was built as it once was know in Morgan St (known as the Olympic Hwy), was the place for many special occasions and dances.
1910 - converted into a store and residence.
1940 - The RAAf used the premises as a Pool Hall and had 6 tablets. During the War.
1950 - operated as a drapery-hardware-grocery store for many years
1960 - operated as a service station and garage. Closed for about 10-15yrs with not much happening. Fresh bread has been baked and sold in Uranquinty since the turn of the century.
The first bakery on record was Mr Morgan in King St, then moved to Morgan St behind the Post Office in the 1960's. Sadly today the orginal bakehouse no longer stands today.
The last baker being Sam Castle and his son Ron Castle.
The bakers van was driven by Mr Crichton.
Buns were a penny each (1 cent)
Bread was 4 pence a loaf (8 cents)
The old baker's oven held/baked 200 four pound loaves of bread.

 

 
2002 - work started for a Bakery to open
 
2004 - 25 June, the day had arrived to finally open the Organic Bakery/Cafe by Paul and Tania Gillanders. Paul is a carpenter and Tania being a pastry cook/baker.
